Which areas can be treated with hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid can be used to treat a wide range of areas, including wrinkles around the eyes, forehead and cheeks, nasolabial folds, lines on the neck and décolletage, as well as for lip enhancement in cases of volume loss.
It can also be particularly effective for fine vertical lines around the lips, where a combination of medical needling – with or without PRP – and carefully selected, lighter hyaluronic acid fillers may be beneficial.
Hyaluronic acid can also be used for subtle corrections to the nose and for enhancing the shape and projection of the chin. In the case of so-called marionette lines, it is important to address the underlying cause. These lines are often associated with a loss of volume around the cheekbones, cheeks and chin. Targeted volume restoration using specialised blunt-tipped cannulas can help compensate for these changes.
Restoring volume to the temples or the tear trough area between the lower eyelid and upper cheek can also create an effective rejuvenating result. How often does hyaluronic acid treatment need to be repeated?
This depends on the product used, its formulation and your individual circumstances. The body gradually breaks down hyaluronic acid over time. Depending on its consistency and degree of cross-linking, this can range from approximately three months for very light, non-cross-linked formulations to as long as two years for highly cross-linked products.
The aesthetic benefits may remain visible for an extended period. At our practice in Munich, we exclusively use products from established manufacturers such as Juvéderm, Restylane and Teoxane.
Can hyaluronic acid treatments be repeated as often as desired?

Treatment is generally considered to involve little or minimal discomfort.

What exactly happens during the treatment?
Depending on the injection technique, a fast-acting topical anaesthetic cream may first be applied to the treatment area. The precise injection technique is then selected according to the depth and underlying cause of the wrinkles.
Very fine superficial lines can be treated directly by carefully injecting hyaluronic acid beneath them. A more comprehensive approach focuses on restoring lost facial volume and repositioning or supporting tissues affected by age-related volume loss and skin laxity. The aim is always to achieve a balanced and natural-looking result.
Do I need to go to hospital for hyaluronic acid wrinkle treatment?
No. Hyaluronic acid wrinkle treatment is performed as an outpatient procedure at our practice in Munich and generally takes approximately 30–60 minutes, depending on the extent of the treatment.
What type of anaesthesia is required?
Many hyaluronic acid fillers available today already contain the local anaesthetic lidocaine. As the treatment itself generally involves little discomfort, no additional anaesthesia is normally required.
A fast-acting topical anaesthetic cream is also frequently applied to the treatment areas beforehand to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
How should I prepare for hyaluronic acid wrinkle treatment?

Temporary bruising, redness and swelling may occur as a result of injections with a needle or cannula.
If unwanted accumulations or irregularities caused by hyaluronic acid occur, an enzyme containing hyaluronidase (Hylase) can be administered in appropriate cases to dissolve the hyaluronic acid.
Will I experience pain after hyaluronic acid treatment?
Depending on the type of local anaesthesia used, you may feel only a slight prick at the injection sites. The treatment is generally associated with minimal discomfort, particularly as many hyaluronic acid fillers contain lidocaine to help reduce sensitivity during the procedure.
Will there be any scars?
Hyaluronic acid treatment does not involve surgical incisions and therefore does not normally result in scars.
When can I return to work?

When is the treatment covered by health insurance?
Hyaluronic acid treatment performed for the cosmetic reduction of wrinkles is not covered by health insurance.
Are there alternatives to hyaluronic acid wrinkle treatment?
The most suitable alternative depends on the underlying cause of the wrinkles. For dynamic expression lines caused primarily by muscle activity, Botox treatment may be more appropriate.
